Friday 29th January

We started on our college magazine project today.
We had to find a magazine article which was over two pages, we then taped it down then put a sheet of tracing paper over the top of it, and we drew out the skeleton of a magazine article. We drew the margins & gutters. We also wrote on the sheet of tracing paper, where the title was, graphics, texts, alleys etc. We had to check them off. & things that werent on the article we poicked we had to look through different magazines to find them & to show we knew what they were, Things such a stick up caps & Headers.

Our project is the class need to make a magazine for people who are possibly going to do this course. Everyone is to have their own article & today we came up with a few idea's what everyone is going to write about.
We had to write down two idea's, something that relates to college & something that we are interested in as an individual. I know what i'm going to write about. Tbh i'm looking quite forward to this project.

We've also to make a podcast version of our magazine, Everyone has to make an individual podcast on their articles and include images or video clips on the thing that they've chosen to write about. & I've decided i'm going to write a review on Tim Burton :]

Tuesday 26th

Today is the first day after the week holiday and it's also the first day of the timetable change, Even though we haven't started a new project. Today a few people in our group played about with the animation, Even though we've finished it we had to fix the sound levels on it. The rest of us were to write on this what exactly we've done individually in the animation.

During the whole animation, different people have different jobs & certain things to do. I made a model, My character was the one standing behind the counter in the restaurant scene of the animation, I also started to make a goalie but someone finished it off. I also helped with the set and some of the props. I also done the editing side of it with Fiona. We decided this when we were first told about the project and when we had to assign everyone with certain jobs.

We also put our animation onto disk. Now until we start a new project, I'm focusing on getting this properly updated. =]

What we done on Tuesday the 12th

We edited the animation abit more and took out a few of the scenes (pretty much the ones that made more sense) So now the whole animation (including the storyboard) goes along like this: The asylum seeker walks into the restaurant, The person behind the counter refuses to sell him while the white guy is shouting abuse at him, Then the asylum seeker walks away. It then cuts to the tv scene where the white guy is watching the football on the tv & it's a penalty shot & it's a black man who scores the winning goal. It then goes back to the restaurant scene where the asylum seeker walks in and the white guy greets him, Shakes his hand and the sit down to have a beer together. We then added sound which was two people from our group commentating on the whole thing in the still of a football match.

What i done:
Today i helped with the finishing touches for our groups animation. Me & Flea edited the times on the images, We then used the images that we had sorted earlier and put them into individual folders and turned them into to short films. We then took out the images that we didn't need or the ones that had hands in them or the ones with mistakes. We then added all the short films of the images that we were going to use and turned them into our animation. Originally the animation was supposed to be 30 seconds long but ours was a bit longer than that. To be fair though this is the first time we've made a proper animation. I also took a note of everything we did in class so i could update this :)

Also in Angies class, Before she came in i did a few things to my flipbook animation, As i forgot about it, (Which i finished on Friday) Then when she came in, i added a few more things to my sketch book before i handed it in. I had to draw an accurate picture of my model which i made for the animation, Including the exact height of the model. Which was 7cm. After that i wrote down & explained what i had to do to make the model and what problems i had while i was making the model. Such as when i was covering the armature in plasticine the wire frame started poking out the minute i moved the model, So i had to add a bit more plasticine which made the model a bit harder to move. After i done that i started doing the rest of the paper work which i have now done, Including the report i had to write on the animation, All i need to do is hand it in. :)

Report on animation.

Animation over the years has changed greatly. So many different techniques have been used and there are forever new ways of creating an animation. When animation first came around, it was just still images of things such as animals, They would draw pictures of them in different angles to try and give off the idea that the animals were moving if you looked at the images one after the other. There was also several toys that were made which had different angles of the same image in a circle, You were meant to spin the top of it, Which made the images spin round and because of the angle's it gave off the impression that it was moving. There is also a Zoetrope which is pretty much the same thing, It spins and makes the images blur together to give off the impression of movement, Pretty much the equivalent of a motion picture, Also Zoetrope is apparently greek for "wheel of life"

In present time, Animation is done completely different. It's all mostly done on computers, With CGI (Computer Generated Images) they create the images on the computer and edit them all together to make a short film, Which they turn into an animation. Animation's today still use storyboards, Which they draw out. But they can still use other materials such as clay and plasticine, They make their characters, Take pictures then move the characters into the position that is needed, Take the next picture then repeat the process.

Flipbook.

We had to make our own flipbook animation. We drew our animation out then scanned them into the computers. We then edited them in iMovie to turn them into an animation. I tried uploading the video to this but it was taking ages so i gave up. Ewan has a copy of the video though :]
I forgot to bring in my original drawings and because all the images had been split individually i had to copy all the drawings into word, one by one and i also gave a copy of that to Ewan because the printer wasn't working >=[

Animation - Tuesday 12th January 2010 pt II

We've edited it about more now, & we got rid of a few scenes, Pretty much the ones that didn't make sense and the ones that weren't needed. So now the whole thing (including the storyboard) is, The asylum seeker walks into the restaurant and the white guy throws his food in anger at the presence of the asylum seeker, And the person behind the counter refuses to serve him, So the Asylum seeker leaves. It then cuts to where the white guy is watching football on the tv & it's the black guy that scores the goal during the penalty making his favourite team win. It then goes back to the cafe, Where the asylum seeker is greeted by the white guy, Shaking hands then sit down together for a drink. All that's needed to do is add sound, Which will be like commentating during the whole thing, Not just the football scene which is being added right this minute. After that, That will be our groups animation finished... Finally.

Animation - Tuesday 12th January 2010

We put all the pictures into several folders and sort them out. As there are some pictures that have lighting problems, Also so we knew what pictures were for certain scenes. There was also pictures missing, With hands in them, and there are pictures which don't relate to the storyboard. We have also realized that iMovie is that great for making animations. This is also our last week to get everything sorted and have the animation finished. In the actual storyboard the asylum seeker walks in and the white guy walks out in a rage. But the pictures that were took the asylum seeker walks in, Falls over then the white guy walks out. Which means now we have to change the storyboard to fit with the images as it's too late to take more pictures or whatever. As it's mine and Fiona's job to edit the whole thing, We've discovered that some of the computers wouldn't let us edit the times for the images all in one go, It also wouldn't let us change the settings to PAL. So we had to go back to the computer that we were using the first time, and we had to edit the times of the images individually. It was me & Fiona that worked on it. When we done it together it took alot quicker. That's the filming done, And all the scenes put into separate short movies, There's just a bit of last minute editing to be done & adding all the short films together to make our final animation and to add sound.

History.

The last 4 things on the sheet were flipbook 1868, Flipbook, Stop motion & CGI.

History.

I looked up zoetrope & this was the first thing that i found.

I also found something for praxinoscope:

History of animation

From the same sheet as before i was told to find a few more examples of things. I was also told to find examples of thaumatrope. I searched it up and i got a few results. I didn't know what to pick so i put a couple up.

This is the other example that i found:

History of animation

I was given a sheet & told to find examples of the words in bold. I looked up the Magic Lantern 1671 or Lanterna Magica. This is what i found when i typed it into youtube.
